If you take a life do you know what you'll give?
Odds are you won't like what it is
When the storm arrives would you be seen with me
Name: Vol'jin
Nicknames: N/A
Age: 34
Member Group: King (Well, he's leader of the Darkspear tribe, so that would be a King right?)
Fandom: World of Warcraft
I've seen angels fall from blinding heights
But you yourself are nothing so divine
Just next in line
Height: 6ft when sit on his haunches, 8ft when he straitens.
Weight: 200lbs
Hair color: Bright red
Eye color: Dusky yellow.
General Appearance:
Vol'jin is a Troll and as such he appears to be lanky and somewhat top heavy due to his hunched position but his form is also muscular and languid, giving off the impression of being very agile. This happens to be the norm for when he simply standing or resting for a moment and even then he is pretty tall at around 6 feet. However, his true height is deceptive as of all male Trolls, when he straitens out to run or make his dominance or opinion known, he easily reaches 8 feet. His ears are elongated with plug-like earrings set into the lower lobes and the points match the height of his vibrant red mohawk. His eyes are dusky yellow and his face is usually adorned with white and red face paint set on deep blue skin.
Another feature about Trolls are their tusks, the tusks on females are usually small and don't extend very far but on the males, it's the other way around. Vol'jin's tusks jut out and curve round to almost the length of his face. They are worn and yellowing, adorned with simple red bracelet like ornaments. To match his vibrant mohawk he has a small beard on a slightly pointed chin. He only has two toes on each foot and he is always barefoot and he only has two fingers and one opposing thumb on each hand, Trolls don't wear shoes and are able to walk within most environments.
Arm yourself because no-one else here will save you
The odds will betray you
And I will replace you
Strengths: Strategy, determination, endurance, sees reason, regenerative capabilities (he heals faster and can regrow toes or fingers)
Weaknesses: Temper, can hold a grudge for way too long, distrusting of members of the Alliance despite a guarded willingness to work together,
Fears: Failing his people, losing the ability to endure, losing his soul
General Personality:
Vol'jin is being who has grown through his experiences and has become far stronger because of what he has gone through. However, he has always been something of a strategist and his determination has always been a focal point about him. He knows the benefits of enduring, that it can lead to earned rewards in the future for himself and for his people. He is willing to be patient but he is also watchful. This trait of patience is an unusual thing for all Trolls but Vol'jin seems to be the exception. He recognises patience as endurance and therefore a good quality.
He is recognised to be one of the wisest of the leaders of the Horde and when Garrosh came to be Warchief of the Orc capital Orgrimmar, he knew it would not end well. Vol'jin is more or less honourable and whilst not as slow to decide on matters like Tauren typically are, he does not act on rash or quick thought. He will sit and think things through before making his decisions, making sure he has thought through all avenues that will lead to the maximum effect for the smallest cost. This makes him a leader who is far more open to negotiation and reason; unlike Garrosh who is a warrior first and a politician last. He has a heart that he guards but it shines through when he feels it most important to him and his people.
Despite his unusual trait of being the most patient of his kind, he does have a temper that flares up when he is slow to recognise it. After a few moments though he tends to realise what he's doing and stops to collect himself. He is the kind of leader you want on your side rather than as an enemy. He's pragmatic and he will say how things are with only a little beating around the bush.
His loyalty is to his people and to the Horde that Thrall, the previous Warchief, had struggled to build into a surviving organisation of five factions. His respect for Thrall is clear, he treats the green orc as a brother and one he greatly considers a close friend. It is only due to his love and respect for Thrall that he has not broken the Darkspear Tribe away from the Horde as he had thought about doing. However, he knows the Horde will be as it once used to be and he watches Garrosh from the shadows from the heart of the newly renamed Darkspear Isles. As long as he and his people endure then he knows his people won't die.
And if you think you've won
You never saw me change
The game that we've all been playing
Family:
- Sen'jin - Father, Witch Doctor (Deceased)
- Other family members are either missing, unknown or deceased
History:
Vol'jin was born the son of the Darkspear chieftain, Sen'jin on an island chain off the coast of Stranglethorn Vale and also became the Witch Doctor's apprentice as he grew up. Life here was perilous and never assured. They were a small tribe, clinging on through their own customs, constant murloc raids and were nearly wiped out by a human invasion. Things were getting dire for the Darkspear trolls, and had it not been for Thrall's timely arrival and lending his aide, they would have become extinct.
Shortly before Thrall's arrival, Sen'jin had long known something was to happen that would spell doom for his people. He sent his son to a part of the island known to his people as First Home. Very few went into First Home that ever returned again. To go in and to return was to become a Shadow Hunter. This was where the loa lived. The loa are ancient trolls that have ascended and look to the future of their people. Anyone who went into First Home could either receive the gift of sight or the curse of blindness, the Loa were ruthless in this regard.
However, Vol'jin knew that to never return as a Shadow Hunter would not settle well but he was afraid to go alone. So he brought his friend Zalazane to go with him. They went in together and went through the trials of the loa. Both received different visionary paths. Vol'jin received visions of opposites but regardless of how tempting the visions of wealth and fortune looked, he recognised them as the shackles that they were. Time and time again he proved to the loa that he believed that enduring no matter how bad things got was the way to survive. It was better to be beaten upon and free than to be living the high life and be a slave. He believed that this was true for his people too.
The loa were impressed by Vol'jin's determination to walk his own path in the way for others. The loa showed him one vision that would mark the start of the end of one loyalty and the start of a new life.
The loa showed him to be watching a fight between the Tauren Chieftain Cairne Bloodhoof and the Orc warrior Garrosh Hellscream. As he watched, he knew that Cairne had the upper hand over the shorter and stouter orc and it showed as the fight progressed. Cairne was surefooted and his bulk was not a hindrance but as Garrosh brought down the famous axe his father had passed down to him, Cairne brought his staff to block it. The blade cut clean through and sliced into Cairne's side. The wound itself was not a fatal wound, Vol'jin could see that from where he was stood but Cairne's movements had grown sluggish and whilst he was he was otherwise unharmed by the wounded orc, he didn nothing to stop Garrosh from driving his axe into his neck. Whilst others were oblivious, Vol'jin knew that something else was at work here and realised that Cairne had been poisoned. This vision had brought sadness to the young troll and it clearly held a pinnacle moment for his people's future.
He and Zalazane later regrouped and returned to their home only to find it in tatters. There were dead me, women and children being laid out in a line. It was were he learned that Sen'jin had sacrificed himself to protect his people from the human onslaught. Vol'jin had emerged from First Home as a Shadow Hunter and the new Chieftain of the Darkspear. He had a people to save.
Knowing the importance of enduring, he and the Darkspears that remained weather the Sea Witch that had caused all of their travesty before leaving for the Orc land of Durotar. There, they claimed the Echo Isles for themselves whilst swearing their loyalty to Thrall and his New Horde. However, new threats and old faces soon reared their head. Grand Admiral Daelin Proudmoore had led a new expeditionary mission to Durotar, to claim land and to put out this Horde. However, Vol'jin and his Darkspears proved again the strength of their race. Vol'jin used his powers as Shadow Hunter to transform Rexxar, Rokhan and Chen Stormstout into wyverns (winged manticore) to aide in defeating the Alliance fleet from above whilst also helping with the evacuations.
Vol'jin and his people have no particular love for humans because of what has been done to them.
The battle won and Proudmoore's fleet left in tatters, Vol'jin and his people returned to the Echo Isles. But Vol'jin's old friend Zalazane, now a Witch Doctor soon sought to wreak havoc amongst his own people. he had been dabbling in dark magics and grew rather mad. No matter how hard vol'jin tried to reason with Zalazane, more and more of his people were being enslaved. Vol'jin and those who remained loyal and free were not enough to defeat the mad witch doctor by themselves and so fled the Echo Isles. Understanding their plight, Thrall accepted them into the Orc capital of Orgrimmar and over time the two became good friends.
Vol'jin had much respect for Thrall, that the orc was willing to use his resources to help out the Darkspear and in return Thrall made good use of Vol'jin capabilities of wise counsel and strategy. Vol'jin spent many of the years working in the main throne room, Grommash Hold. He remains this day a loyal and true friend of Thrall but the years passed, the politics changed. The Lich King had been, for all intents and purposes, defeated but a new threat from within soon stirred from the core of Azeroth.
The Elements were in great distress and fires, landslides, floods and lightning storms were starting to become common factors. Both factions felt the stress and anger of the elements and so Thrall left Azeroth for Outland to learn from the shamans there of what was going on. As things turned out, an old face from the war with the Burning Legion which the Darkspears aided in soon arose from the shadows.
Neltharion, or Deathwing as he was now named, returned and wrecked havoc on Azeroth. It took Thrall and the sacrifice of the four remaining dragon flights and other heroes from Azeroth to defeat him. However, the repercussions are still being felt down the line. Thrall left to live with his mate and relearn himself as a shaman in Outland. He originally was going to leave Cairne in charge as Warchief but it was inevitable that a conflict would arise between the old Tauren chieftain and Garrosh.
Through subtle manipulation from another Tauren leader called Magatha Grimtotem, an enemy of Cairne's, offered to bless Gorehowl, Garrosh's infamous weapon, though in truth she applied poison to it. The fate of the New Horde and the future of Vol'jin's people was set in stone as the poisoned blade struck Cairne.
Saddened by the news and knowing the needs and wants of his people, Thrall gave the title of Acting Warchief to Garrosh. Vol'jin and Garrosh are two individuals however that do not agree with each other much on anything. Whilst they both strive to do what is best for their people, both go about it in different ways. Garrosh knew nothing about diplomacy and negotiation whereas Vol'jin recognised that Garrosh was not going to be an easy force to reconcile with.
Their last conversation meant that Vol'jin left Orgrimmar for the newly reclaimed Echo Isles, which they later renamed. Had it not been for Thrall, Vol'jin would have had his people leave the Horde altogether but out of love and respect for the previous Warchief, he has not cut the alliance.
His people endure and they remain a free people. Out of all the Troll tribes, the Darkspears have proved to be one of the strongest. This was proved to others when he was invited to a meeting with the other tribal leaders. Even when King King Rastakhan of the Zandalari united the Gurubashi and the Amani tribes to reclaim their old empires, the one who remained to oppose him was a troll himself. Vol'jin knew the risks involved and he knew the choice would never settle with his people. It was the Gurubashi who had forced them to eek out a living, that hunted their young for sport and caused the Sea Witch that had killed his father Sen'jin.
Vol'jin also recognised that whilst the two tribes were a force to be reckoned with, they were also weaker and enslaved and that the Darkspear were far stronger and better off with the Horde than with the Zandalari.
However, it seems the loa have more in store for his future when he finds himself in a strange new land.
The coldest blood runs through my veins
Try to hide your hand
Forget how to feel

Roleplay Sample:
He could hear the gulls cry on the winds, the hiss of their raptors on the breeze and the sounds of his village, currently thriving on a few isles not far from a sun baked land. A land that bore much bone of content for Vol'jin of the Darkspear. He was their leader, their Shadow Hunter, entrusted with their future but of all things he knew that no matter how dark recent events had made his people's future, there was one thing he and his people could rely upon. The ability to endure. Through this, his people would remain free and that was all that had mattered.
Still, no matter how well they had made a home for themselves on what they now called the Darkspear Isles, there was still Durotar and Garrosh Hellscream. It was not something he liked to think about but he was very aware. He called call upon the spirits but the loa did not always choose to answer. He contemplated his last heated conversation with the brown Orc warrior and it still didn't sit well. Vol'jin longed for a Horde that was right, that stood for all that it had started out on but he knew that could never be. Not with Garrosh. Vol'jin grunted and spat in the fire.
"You are lucky I don't gut you right here, whelp. You are foolish to think that you can speak to your Warchief in such ways."
He recalled that conversation only too well, he had shown it enough to others to help them understand why things had come to pass. He knew Garrosh had a decent structure but where Vol'jin had been wise before his time, Garrosh had yet to know the meaning of the word. The corruption was well underway, Vol'jin had seen it from afar. After all, after his old friend's betrayal, he had strengthened himself to never make that mistake again. It was why today was so important. Today they were about to head out to Razor Hill where he would remind Garrosh that blind power was not going to save him or those foolish enough to follow him. He recalled his response as he moved through his head quarters out to where his raptor was waiting for him.
"Ya be no Warchief of mine. Ya've not earned my respect and I'll not be seein' tha Horde destroyed by ya foolish thirst for war."
War was not something Vol'jin wanted but it seemed either way he looked at the angles of the situation before him, Garrosh would get that much. He knew what he was about to do would earn some response from Garrosh, it was to be expected and Vol'jin had made sure his people were prepared for it. However, he was also aware he was not alone in his dislike. Sylvanus would undoubtedly back him if only to spite the orc for his heavy handed way of dealing with Forsaken. Baine also would not be content with Garrosh as Warchief, blood lines died hard with Tauren and no matter how much of that fault was not truly Garrosh's fault, Baine disliked him for other reasons. Vol'jin sighed as his raptor hissed and chirruped before butting an armoured head into the large troll and Vol'jin took some solace from the innocent creature.
"Ah I be foolin' no one. It's gonna be a tough day for us all," he murmured with a grin around his tusks. If there was anything worth protecting, it was the survival of their species and the survival of what the Horde stood for traditionally. None of them had felt Garrosh had truly understood what he was taking on.
