Crescendo's legs were covered in muck and grime, his mistress fared no better. Snow had demanded their presence on a hunt and Red had been loath to say no. It had been so long since she had done anything with Snow that hadn't been in a regal setting. She had bid her husband... and that word still brought a smile to her face, a rather enthusiastic goodbye and had promised to be back within a few days. What neither woman had anticipated was the storm that had driven them to seek shelter. They waited out the worst of it and as soon as the rain let up, they made the executive decision to return home and try again in a few weeks time. She had been gone perhaps fifteen hours, but if she was being honest, she was eager to see home, she missed her lover horrendously even after so short of a separation.
She was soaked to the bone, the rain still pelting the earth with ferocity, at least it was cleansing them of mud. Goose bumps broke out along her flesh as she navigated the black streets of Aledon. She was soaking wet, utterly freezing and exhausted. All she wanted was to dry off and crawl into Dorian's embrace. She reached the manor only to blink as Victor came outside to greet her. She blinked confused, sliding from Crescendo's back as the stable boy came to collect the stallion. She opened her mouth to speak, but the older gentleman beat her too it. "Mistress Grey! Lovely evening no? Why don't we travel to visit your grandmother? It has been awhile since you have gone to visit her. I'm sure she would love a bit of company." The older man spoke softly, gently, almost willing her to say yes and instinctively her eyes drifted to the window of Dorian's quarters, candlelight flickered and after a moment of concentration. She could hear the moans and groans of pleasure over the torrential downpour. Victor braced himself as her eyes slid shut, face contorting in an expression of pain no medicine could cure. She looked down and away and Victor half braced himself to see her shift. He had only see it twice but it never failed to terrify him. When she met his gaze, very poorly concealing the heartache, her eyes remained green. "Could you run me a bath Victor?" Her voice cracked and the elder hesitated, not wanting to leave the woman alone. In your quarters miss? Ruby nodded, drawing in a shaking breath. "Please."
He expected her to follow after Crescendo, to regain herself before following, Ruby was remarkably strong willed when she wanted to be and she didn't like showing how badly Dorian sometimes wounded her. Victor had lived in close quarters with her for too long, he could read it, no matter how hard she attempted to hide it. He was surprised when she followed him instead, kicking off her boots near the front door, she trailed after him, up the stairs as quietly as she was able and closing her eyes as they passed Dorian's chambers. She could hear it as clear as if they were standing next to her Isabella was her name , she could smell the tainted scent of perfume, sweat, and sex, and she trembled, a quake that rocked her entire frame before she slipped into her bedroom, Victor had already filled the tub with steaming water and was in the process of setting her soap and such to the side. Her arms were folded across her chest, her teeth chattering, she hadn't really realized how cold she was. Shall I retrieve a nightgown for you miss? Victor's soft whisper snapped her out of her reverie and she blinked owlishly at him for a moment, before nodding numbly, peeling the soaked garments off of her flesh before stepping into the steaming water, closing her eyes as she sank down into the steam. The warmth sunk into her skin, and she sucked in a harsh breath.
The gown she once wore when she couldn't control her shifts was thrown upon the counter and she heard Victors soft footfalls vanish. She sunk down into the bath, allowing it to absorb the chill from her bones. Numbly, she reached for the soap, washing the dirt and grime from her body almost mechanically. She didn't linger longer than necessary, her muscles unwilling to relax. She stepped from the tub, drying her body slowly before sliding on the ivory gown. It dipped low in the front and ended just past her knees, it was loose, incredibly thin and languid, clinging to her body like a vice when the gentlest of breezes brushed it. She ran a brush through her hair as she perched herself in front of the mirror, but her eyes were glazed with exhaustion and she put no effort into the task, it was instinctual, nothing more.
Setting the brush aside, she rose to her feet, trailing across the opulent bedroom to her terrace, sliding open the door, she stepped outside, shutting it behind her. The overhang kept her free of the rain, but the winds trapped her immediately, blowing right through the thin gown and sending goose bumps skittering across her flesh as she folded her arms over her chest almost protectively. Her wedding ring gleamed up at her and her traitorous brain wondered if he bothered to take his own off or if he just dismissed her once his liaisons noticed it. She clenched her eyes shut, her body trembling as she desperately tried to quell the ache in her chest. A few stray droplets of moisture dripped down her cheeks.
The sound of her balcony doors opening made her jump and whirl around, green eyes locking on the aging form of Victor, who was in the process of closing the balcony door behind him. "I brought you a spot of tea, your fav..." He cut himself off as his eyes noticed the trails of water staining her face, setting the cup on the side table, he uttered her name. "Ruby..." He took a tentative step towards her and she crumbled, clutching at the lapels on his coat as she sobbed almost without sound into his jacket. Hesitantly, he draped his arms around the deceptively small woman, shushing her gently. Her body shook and trembled but nary a sound escaped her. She didn't cry for long a few, prolonged moments before she released him, swiping at her eyes and destroying the evidence of her pain, She blinked rapidly, dispelling the blurriness of her vision and Victor could see the utter exhaustion in her face. Shakily she reached for the cup he had brought her and lifted it to her lips. Her body quivered, the taste and warmth doing more for her than any words the elder could dream up ever could. "You're a good friend Victor." Her words were so soft he wondered if she had even spoken them at all. He dipped his head in silent acknowledgement of her praise, but her attention returned to the surrounding land. She needed sleep and he wished there was something more he could do for the poor girl.
"Its freezing out here Miss, please don't linger much longer." He spoke as gently as he could, sighing his defeat, there was nothing more that he could do. Victor walked back through her own chambers, and down the stairs. Ruby didn't watch him leave, her attention had returned to the land before her. Ruby shivered once, the cold seeping into her flesh and making her numb. An occasional tear would drip down her cheeks, but after awhile, even her eyes seemed to give up and the lingering tears ceased. She took small, almost unnoticeable sips of the brew Victor had brought her, eyes misted and glassy starring out over the land and seeing nothing. She wasn't sure how long she stood there watching the land silently, but as the sun started to rise sending a plethora of pinks, oranges, reds and even a rainbow shooting across the sky as the rain continued to fall, she couldn't remember ever witnessing a more beautiful sunrise.
(((OOC: I don't expect whoever wants to reply to this, to come anywhere near this many words! I just had a burst of muse and my fingers commanded I type. x] On a different side note... Victor is a NPC (non-player character) so if you would like to throw him speaking in your post or what not, feel free! Although it would be awesome if Dorian could pop in at some point )))
