Jake spent the morning walking around the city. He was not in the best of moods today. Plus, the nonstop rain only made him feel worse. He had a hood up to protect himself from the rain, looking down at the ground. His hands stuffed inside his pockets. He didn’t care where he was going. He had nowhere to go. He couldn’t keep a job; he was too clumsy to keep one. The poor kid would accidentally break something, and in the end get fired. Since the day he arrived nothing ever went right for him. Sure, the kid made some friends here and there, but no one could ever replace his family. With these four or so months he did however found someone willing to be his new master. Even though he would rather have his father teaching him again, but beggars can’t be choosers. Jake would just have to deal with it until his goals were complete. He didn’t get much sleep the night before because the wound, he gotten a couple days ago, still hurt no matter what he did to make it crease. It was stupid of him to even be up and about. The kid didn’t give himself much time to heal.
He let out a long yawn, stretching his arms out in the air over his head. It was still too early for him to even be awake. Jake would usually sleep pass noon before getting out of bed. He continued to wonder around town aimlessly. It didn’t matter if he got himself lost. That always seemed to happen to him anyway. After all, he had nothing else better to do. No one his age to hang out that actually liked him. Nobody would probably be out today anyway. It was raining, so why would people out walking around? Then it hit him. Why was he out here? It probably was not the best idea to get himself drench in water while still being injured. He could only guess that the wound would only get worse. Then there was the fact he might even get sick while in the down pour. The sixteen year old sighed. He should probably head back to the inn. He looked around the area, finally realizing he had no clue to where the hell he was. Just great…. Now what was he going to do? There was no one to ask for directions the fountain courtyard was empty. The rain probably made everyone stay in their houses. He was just an idiot who went for a walk.
The rain seemed to have calmed down a bit. Jake made his way over to fountain itself. This place always did remind him of home somehow. He took a seat on the ground next to the fountain, leaning his back against it, despite the fact that all the benches were free. He let out another sigh and buried his face in his lap. Why did he even keep trying? There was no way he could ever understand Aledon’s magic. He would have to find someone who did, but that would mean actually telling someone about his magical abilities he was sacred of. He could hear someone’s footsteps, but made no effort to move from his current position. It wasn’t likely they would even talk to him anyway.

The rain poured, and poured. It was nothing like the rain he got back at Berk, but it was still miserable. Last night, Hiccup had spent with Toothless, who was currently hauled up in the nearest cave, it was simply the safest place for a dragon to be. What was more, Hiccup hadn't seen a single dragon around the place, which led him to wonder if they killed them, or if there even as any? At any rate, the last thing Hiccup wanted, was for his friend to get in any form of trouble. So, keeping him out the was was the best possible idea. Even though Toothless may of tried to follow him on several occasions.
All of which had led to Hiccup pushing Toothless back, and confronting him many times over. He was such a stubborn dragon, but he knew that his friend was only really looking out for him. With no hood, and no form of shelter, Hiccup headed towards town. It had taken the pair of them a good few days to find said town, but it had proved to be of great use especially for getting food, and even making a new saddle. Although the process was a long one, Hiccup simply could not wait for the day to come where he would eventually fly again.
The rain quickly begun to drench his clothes, but he didn't mind he had been in worse weather than this. Jogging though the fountain square, Hiccup begun to make his way towards the local shop, they had allowed Hiccup the use of their tools, as well as the workshop, but it had come at a rather costly price, so much so Hiccup for the most part had to give up staying in the local rooms.
He was just about to enter the shop, before a figure out of the corner of his eyes caught his attention. He was a boy, perhaps no more than Hiccup who merely sat there. Hiccup's first thought was that the boy was dead or something.. so naturally as he often did, he ran over towards the boy. "Um.. Hello? are you alive?" He questioned, even despite the fact the questioned seemed stupid. Yet, you could never be to sure in a place like this. Everything was different here.

The boy appeared to be in some degree of pain, that was obvious from the way he winced and whimpered. Well, at least that confirmed to Hiccup that the boy was alive. Naturally however, Hiccup felt the need to help him in anyway that he could. Maybe there was some doctor around? or maybe he just needed somewhere to stay? When the boy finally took note of Hiccups presence, Hiccup offered him a kind smile.
"Not long, You looked.. dead so I though I'd come over to check up on you. It's also raining.. and usually people don't sit outside when it's raining." He mused with a bright smile to match. When the boy mentioned heading somewhere else, Hiccup nodded. That was his plan anyway, he was going to head to the local workshop and continue with the saddle.
"Sure, I'm actually just heading to the work shop though, but your welcome to come join me" He offered with a grin before he presented his hand towards the boy. "The name's Hiccup Haddock, I'm still getting used to this place..a friend and me need to return home." He stated before helping the boy to his feet. Hiccup wasn't the strongest of kids, now was he your typical average kid. Nope, Hiccup was in a class entirely of his own, yet even in that class he was at the top of it. After all, there weren't many dragon trainers. At least none that Hiccup knew of.
Once the boy was on his feet Hiccup gestured into the direction of the blacksmith. It would at least be warm in there what with the fire. Thankfully the owners had allowed him to use it, other wise both he and Toothless would be going no where soon. Heading into the direction of the work shop, Hiccup unlocked the door and stepped inside. "You should go sit by the fire, it's warm there and you can dry off in not time." He announced before he disappeared around the back. Only to return with what looked like a heap of junk. It was in fact, the remains of Toothless's saddle that the two of them had managed to salvage.
"So, why were you outside anyway?" Hiccup questioned as he looked over to the boy. "Oh.. did you want anything to drink?" he questioned, the bonus part about borrowing said shop was that it allowed Hiccup free reign when it came to drinks. Not so much food, but drinks were plenty enough.

Jake was taken by surprised with the answer he had gotten from his previous question. He thought he was dead? Then again the sixteen year old did stay in the same position for a pretty long amount of time without moving an inch. He had a lot of various things on his mind that were bothering him, so no one could really blame him. He had been through a lot since the day he arrived. He was often told by the teenagers that were bullying him that he didn’t belong. The kid knew it himself. Compared to the other knight trainees he was short and lacked muscle. He pushed away his random and depressing thoughts. There was no time for him to be getting all sad. This was someone who was actually willing to talk to him. “Yeah… sorry about that. I needed to get out of the inn for the day.” He was starting to feel a little better than before. His usual upbeat normal self was starting to come through. Regardless, the pain of his lower body wound.
When Hiccup offered to join him to come to the work shop, Jake quickly took it up in a second. The rain didn’t seem like it was going to end anytime soon. Plus, there was the fact that he was lost and didn’t know his way back to the inn. He gave a warm smiled as he learned the other boy’s name. They had more in common than the sixteen year old thought. They both were looking away home though Jake was looking in to it through magic. Magic was the one thing in Aledon that people thrive on. Or so he was told that winter day he arrived on. “I’m Jake Cartney! Nice to meet you. I’m also looking for a way home.” He said as he was helped getting back on his feet. “Thanks…” He trailed off, trying his best ignore the pain. It seemed of haven gotten worse when standing than anything else. Jake placed one of his hands over the injury; hoping pressure would erase the pain. But, got no such luck. It was probably time to change the bandages again. ”How long have you been in Aledon?” He asked, following behind the younger boy.
Once the two made it inside, the sixteen year old took off his hood and headed toward a seat near the fire. His clothes dripped rain water all over the floor. How long was he out there to get himself that wet? He sighed and took off his shirt, reveling a giant scar across his chest. He couldn’t leave soaked bandages on a three day old wound now, could he? That would risk getting infections. He began to untie bandages around his lower body as waited until Hiccup appeared again. “What is all that? Oh… And by any chance do you have any bandages or something?” Jake asked. He winced and let out a couple whimpers here and there as he unwrapped himself.
That is when he was questioned of why he was out in the rain. At first, the sixteen year old didn’t know what to say. He stayed silent until he came up with an answer, ”I was just fired from another job. It’s no big deal…” That was a lair. It hurt like hell, knowing he failed at yet another job. “No thanks… I’m fine for now…” He gave a fake smile in efforts to hide his sadness. Although it was pretty obvious by the look on his face.

I’m Jake Cartney! Nice to meet you. I’m also looking for a way home. said the boy.
With a grin Hiccup nodded, ”Nice to meet you too Jake” he certainly hadn’t heard a name like that before, but then everything here was new, so it was really no surprise. Once they made their way inside the work shop. Hiccup pulled up a chair for Jake to sit on, the boy seemed to be in pretty bad shape, so it was only fair that Hiccup helped him wherever he could.
”Not Long.. a few weeks or so maybe? It’s certainly a different place, I’m hoping to get back to Berk soon.. there are some people who are probably missing me” he commented with a smile, despite the new surroundings, and being so far away from home. Hiccup seemed to handle it well; he did after all have Toothless to keep him company. In fact, the only good thing was the fact that Toothless was with him, who knew what his friend would of done had they been separated.
At any rate, when Hiccup returned with the saddle that he placed on the work bench, Hiccup smiled. ”A project I have been working on.. It’s actually for my friend mainly.” he announced, with a sigh as he glanced to the saddle. It was certainly looking better than what it had been, and hopefully it would soon be ready. As Jake spoke Hiccup looked over to him and noticed the wound. ”Oh, sure.. I know there here somewhere.” he announced before he disappeared again, only to return with a selection of bandages.
”If you don’t mind me asking.. how did you get that It looks pretty nasty.” He questioned curiously before he headed back around to the saddle where he idly begun to make adjustments. In answer to his previous question Hiccup replied, ”Oh, Sorry to hear that.. hm. I’m sure we can find you one, what are you good at?” Hiccup questioned, he was always ready to offer help when it was needed and Jake certainly looked like he could do with some help.
”I may not know a lot about this place, but I know enough. I’m sure we can find you another job.” He said with small words of encouragement. Hiccup himself didn’t really have a job, then again he didn’t plan on staying that long. Still the people that owned he shop were kind enough to offer him some money in exchange for his help every now and then; which often involved fixing certain items, sometime even creating them.

Jake stayed quiet, focusing on unwrapping the bandages. He didn’t want to go and hurt himself like he did this morning with falling down the stairs. He had half his attentions on the other boy. It had to be a few minutes until he was done. The injury still kind of bleeding. He accidentally reopened the wound when he tripped and broke most of the plates he just washed. The reason to which he was fired in the first place. “Aledon’s not that all that bad. There are some kind people here. I’ve been here for a couple of months now.” He said, deciding to leave out the fact that he still couldn’t find a way home. No matter how hard he tried he couldn’t possibly understand any of this world’s magic. He doubted that his new friend even knew about the curse and the people here thrived off of the use of magic. He didn’t want to be the bearer of bad news, so he decided to keep his mouth shut on the matter. He had been away for so long he couldn’t even remember what it felt like having his family and friends there to depend on.
The sixteen year old took a seat near the fire in hopes of warming up. It wasn’t smart on his part to keep moving around as much. It only caused him more pain the more he did so. Jake glanced over in the direction of the saddle that Hiccup placed on the work bench. “I take it, your friend’s not human then.” He left it at that. He didn’t want to prey in other people lives. The kid himself had things he did not want to tell others and did not plan to. Hiccup disappeared once again returning later with some bandages. “Thanks for all your help.” He gave a smile. The teen had through enough that he had lost most of his trust in others. Going from a sheltered life in his family manor a being throw into a completely different life would do that to you.
When Hiccup asked where he got the wound, Jake didn’t know how to answer. He could tell the whole truth that would mean telling someone of his had magic. The kid was scared of his abilities and only used them when needed. Yet, this time he used them unconsciously; the main reason he got out of that fight alive. “I’ve had worse,” He pointed to the scar across his chest. “Anyway, some ogre attacked when I was in the forest. I was probably in its territory or something. The monsters here are just about everywhere and are pretty strong.” Jake finally answered. He left out the part of how he got out of there alive. Then again, he didn’t really understand just what happened in the first place.
Yet another question came from the younger teen of what Jake was good at. He was a trained warrior from a long line of knights. He shouldn’t be cleaning dishes and whatnot; he was supposed to be training to fulfill his family line. “I’m only really good with a sword. Besides that, I’m useless.” He said with a sigh. He tried countless times at many things, but in the end he would fail or just give up. “I’m supposed to be training to be a knight, but…” He trailed off. Just talking about it brought up the thought of giving he gave up while in Aledon. More importantly, the thought of his family and beloved homeland.

Hiccup questioned as he went about tending to the leather of the saddle, fixing it and repairing it whilst giving it a large amount of attention to detail. It was no lie, Hiccup took pride in what he made and what he did; it was who he was. When Jake questioned as to what his friend was Hiccup let out a small nervous laugh of sorts. "Haha, no.. you could say that. He's... different, but in a good way, a very good way." Hiccup said, almost proud of his friend; still he didn't know how people reacted to dragons around here, so it was best to simply keep it quiet. For now. Once Jake was asked about his injury, although he would not pry too much, Hiccup knew that the boy too wasn't telling the whole truth, still it wasn't really any of his business to begin with. "An Ogre!?" Hiccup expressed, Ogre's didn't exist did they? he had never seen one and the only time he had heard of them was in stories. "Ogre's... I didn't think they were real..this changes everything" Hiccup grinned, seemingly pleased by this new information. "It's like a whole new chapter.. coming here in the last week I have learned so much.. what did it look like? was it 10 feet tall?" Hiccup questioned as he got out his book from his coat pocket and poised his pen ready to take notes. At the mention on monsters Hiccup's curiosity peaked "What.. do you class as monster here?" He asked, how many creatures were there? Hiccup had only ever had to deal with weather conditions and dragons.. but ogres? what else was there in this place that they didn't know about? Maybe Toothless and he could look for some? it would defiantly prove useful for the other to learn about the other creatures that were out there like how to fight then. In response to his earlier question, Hiccup smiled if he was good with a sword.. then it was perfect. "Well if your good with a sword.. maybe you'd be good with a knife? what about working in the kitchen.. you could chop things up and get paid for it." Hiccup suggested, as he tried to help out his new acquaintance. It was a suggestion either way that he hoped would help. Jake seemed upset at that moment, placing down his tools Hiccup looked over to the boy. "It can't be that bad.. I'm sure there is somewhere here that you could train to be a.. knight or warrior? doesn't this place have guards or anything? maybe even watchmen? we have them back home. There has to be something like that here." Hiccup suggested with a small shrug, if this place didn't have any defenses then it was a pretty poor town in the first place. Every town or village needed some form of protection.[/ul][/blockquote]

Jake tried just about everything to get back to his homeland. He even searched the area he arrived in more than ten times already. He asked the townspeople about it many times over, but always got the same answer that he should give up. The only thing he didn’t attempted yet was using his magic. Which he was currently studying up Aledon’s magic to find a way home. “Four months to be exact. I’ve tried just about everything, but still can’t find a way home. My family probably thinks I’m dead by now.” He could only guess what his family believed what happened. If he just didn’t go out that night, he would still be in his world; causing trouble with his twin. Being up his family was a stupid thing to do. It made the teen feel a lot worse. He finally began to bandage up the wound once more. It hurt like hell to even be touching to, but it had to be done. Tending to your own wounds was a lot harder than anything else for the sixteen year old. He always ended up hurting himself even more.
He could tell there was something up with the way Hiccup answered his previous question. But, Jake decided to leave it at that. Everyone had their secrets. Besides, he wasn’t being all that honest himself. He still hasn’t told a soul about his abilities. When the time came, the secrets would relieve themselves. It seemed once Jake spoke of the ogre, Hiccup become excited. The sixteen year old couldn’t help, but laugh which in return made pain shoot through his body. “It was pretty ugly, stupid, and really strong… The thing wouldn’t die no matter what I did to it. I barley out got of there alive without-” He stopped himself from talking on the subject. The idiot was just about to relieve the fact that he had magic. Now he would have to come up with some story of how he escaped. “Does your world have monsters and such?” He asked, quickly changing the subject.
Yet another question came from Hiccup about the monsters of Aledon. The sixteen year old would have to think about this one. He couldn’t possibly remember all of them. There were just too many. “Um… Well there are ogres, orcs, trolls, giants, sirens; something called a wraith, and countless others.” Jake stopped for another moment to think about what he was told the day he first arrived. “Just about every creature from any myth lives here. I was told there are dragons that live in the caves, but was told to stay away because it was dangerous.” He said, finishing up bandaging himself up. He let out a small yelp as he tied it tightly so it wouldn’t fall off later on. “The monsters here are just about everywhere and are very strong, so I suggest keeping your guard up.” He was not the best to be explaining all this, especially since he didn’t really know much about it himself. It was the townspeople that told him everything he knew.
The sixteen year old listened to the younger boy’s suggestion. Jake knew he was only trying to help, however the kid already knew he would probably fail at that too. He was a trained warrior since birth. He wasn’t taught how to do anything else, but the job given to him. “Knowing me, I would probably just break something again and get fired. I did find master a week or two ago, but seeing as I’m still wounded, we can’t begin training. He probably found a new student by now.” He left it at that, not really in the mood to explain further. He couldn’t help but feel depressed with everything he had been through.

(14 year old Hiccup) Ogres?! who would of thought it!? never would he have expected something like Ogres to appear in a conversation.. the only ogres he knew happened to be the ones within stories.. the fact that this boy had faced one.. maybe even fought it and still lived was incredible. As the boy spoke, Hiccup begun to write such information down furiously within his small book. His book that held many discoveries, and secrets.. thankfully he knew how to keep it safe. First and foremost was to never, ever let it stray away from him and to keep it on him at all times. Within the book it held so much information about Toothless, that he dread to think what would be done with it if ever they fell into the wrong hands. Ugly, Stupid, Strong Hiccup wrote, repeating them within his head. Imagine what he could do with this.. his father would have fits.. new creatures, new species! more then they had ever believed in!
When a question was directed to him, Hiccup paused.. ages ago they would of considered Dragons as monsters.. but now? they were a way of life and about as common as a house hold cat, or sheep as the case my go with those back on Berk. "Um.. well.. we have Dragons.. that's about as far as our 'monster' database goes." He shrugged as if it was no big deal, and it wasn't.. Dragons weren't monster really they were just misunderstood. When Jake mentioned the rest of his 'monsters' Hiccup was once again drawn back to his book where he begun to jot down information, this was simply to good to be true.. the sudden source of information was exciting and it had Hiccups heart pounding within his chest. What if.. everything was real? what if every story he had ever read was actually real? His entire perspective had been changed in a matter of moments.. was he overacting?
When Jack mentioned about Dragons, Hiccup paused.. dragons? was there more in this place? and if so how many? When he then carried on to mention that they were 'dangerous' Hiccup couldn't argue much.. yes they were dangerous at times but at the same time, you just needed to know how to deal with them.. they were never intentionally dangerous.. that was something Hiccup had learned over time especially during his time with Toothless. Eventually the conversation took on a change of direction, where Hiccup suggested a potential idea for a job. The way in which the boy seemed to dismiss the idea left Hiccup paused for thought. Hmm, how could he fix this? "I doubt you'd get fired.. you wouldn't know until you try it though? I mean it seems perfect.. you'd get to fight? and do what you do best right?" He questioned as he eventually took a seat by the table.

Jake just sat there quietly, watching the other boy write down everything information he had gotten. In the back of his mind, the sixteen year old knew he probably wasn’t the best one to get any type of information from. He often forgets just about anything important, and was just a big idiot in general. Which is why he failed the exam to become a knight like every male did in his family line. There he goes again; bring up the thought of his family. More than anything did the teen want to be with them. Yet he was stuck in Aledon, looking for a way back home. Sure, his search might be for nothing in the end, but that would not discourage him now. All he really had to do was learn how to control his magic. “I’m probably not the best one to be telling you all this… I’m kind of an idiot.” He said with a laugh. The sixteen year old was used to being called an idiot. He often found that most people called him that back home.
The kid stayed silent for another minute or two at the mention of getting fired. Just the thought of it still bothered him deeply. Living on his own was a lot harder than he first thought. Back home, Jake had his whole life planned out by his parents. His life was shelter from the real hardships of a commoner’s way of living. Getting fired and fending for himself without the help of his brothers was a whole new experience for the sixteen year old. “I tried it and failed many times… Even tried getting a teacher, but no one wants a ‘short, weakling’ as a student.” He repeated the same words that were told to him time and time again. If they would just let the boy prove himself everything would be different.
“So what’s it like where you come from?” Jake asked in effort to change the subject. The whole matter of talking about getting fired only made the teen feel depress. With everything that had happen in the past months, he just wanted a few moments to feel somewhat cheerful.
