Height: 6'1"
Weight: 159 lbs.
Hair color: Brown
Eye color: Brown
General Appearance: Merlin is lanky. He has short, dark hair and brown eyes that glow when he does magic. A long face. Remarkably his only scar is a little crescent-shaped nick on his left hand from his first time cleaning a sword.
Merlin has an affinity for the colors red and blue. He wears them interchangeably on his shirts and cravats with a brown coat, trousers and boots. Occasionally he will be made to wear the traditional garb of Camelot's servants - which are very red and very flamboyant - but that's only on special occasions.

-learning quickly
Weaknesses:
-lying
-following orders
-sword fighting
-hunting
-hiking
-keeping quiet
Fears:
-Uther learning of his magic
-Arthur turning his back on him
-Losing his loved ones
General Personality: You will never meet someone more dedicated to helping others. He would sooner starve than see a complete stranger be executed. His kindness is often his downfall, however, and he's had more than his share of problems from refusing to give up on someone. Along the same vein, he doesn't take orders very well, either.
He's stubborn and doesn't have any problem speaking his mind - especially when he thinks you've done wrong. He just wants whats best for everyone. He's perhaps a little shy as well ... a side effect of having to keep his secret for so long.

Family:
Mother: Hunith
Father: Balinor
History: Born in Ealdor, the small farming village on the outskirts of Lot's kingdom, Merlin was raised by a single mother, never knowing who his father was until quite recently. He knew from a young age there was something different about him - the way he could make things float or break so easily - but his mother made sure he kept this a secret. It didn't stop him from using them all the time at home, however, even without meaning to.
The drawback to having powers was that Merlin never felt like he fit in. There was always this unspoken thing that made him different, and a lot of the children thought he was strange. His only real friend in Ealdor was Will. Will didn't care what the other children thought, or that Merlin was without a father, he liked him for who he was and they were great friends for many years before Will discovered his secret by accident. There were a few days after when Will was in shock and would only ask questions - very few of which Merlin could answer, not knowing where his own magic was coming from since his mother was human. In the end, Will agreed to keep the secret, and their friendship grew stronger.
By the time Merlin turned twenty, it was obvious Ealdor was no place for him. Hunith, fearing for her son's safety if he remained cooped up and unable to use his abilities, sent him to Camelot to live with her old friend and be trained in magic. Gaius also happened to be court physician, and Merlin's staying with him also entailed becoming his apprentice.
His first few days in Camelot were not exactly pleasant. He had two separate run-ins with the pompous Prince Arthur - a fight with whom earned him a night in the dungeons and some time in the stocks - and had to save said Prince from vengeful witch. Worse still was when the King, Uther, gave Merlin a job as Arthur's manservant as payment. The only good thing to come out of that entire time was meeting Guinevere, the Lady Morgana's maid who Merlin became good friends with.
It took some time for Merlin to warm up to Arthur and vice versa. If only Arthur knew how many times Merlin had been forced to use his magic to save the Prince, perhaps he wouldn't be so quick to order his servant around. Still, Merlin often doubts what he does in Camelot, having to keep his magic a secret for fear of being executed by the King. The thing that keeps him going is what the Great Dragon, Kilgharrah tells him - that he is destined to help Arthur become a great king. This is not without its challenges. Most recently he was forced to poison the Lady Morgana to save all of Camelot, and to free Kilgharrah ... who subsequently began setting fire to the kingdom.
It's not easy being a warlock in Camelot, but Merlin hopes that, during their brief stay in Aldeon, perhaps Arthur will warm up to the idea that magic can be used for good. The other royals of Aldeon certainly don't have a problem with it, at least.
